1. Malibu Beach

This is by far one of the best places to spend your free time at in South California.

With flawless laid back waves and beautiful sandy beaches, it is the ideal spot for a surfer looking to have a good time on their long-board.

It is easily accessible from the main road and is neither overcrowded nor too empty making it one of the best surfing spots in California.

2. Zuma Beach

This is one of the longest beaches in California and is located in the Malibu area.

With the crystal clear waters and the beautiful and clean sandy beaches, it is a very popular spot not only for long board surfing but also for swimming, wind surfing, jet skiing and sun bathing.

There are two key wave breaks on this beach and that is the western and the southern break. These are present throughout all seasons for surfers to enjoy.

3. Venice Beach

For Venice Beach, surfing is a culture. The beach is home to surf camp, several surf schools and hosts several tournaments and festivals throughout the year. I

n short, it is to surfing what Napa Valley is to wine. The waves are varied with nice shallow ones for beginners and the deep hollows for the pros.

4. El Porto Beach

This is the ideal surfing spot for beginners. Its waves are just right for picking up the skill for practicing safely.

There are also very many surfing camps and schools around to help you with the first few steps of your journey to pro surfing.

The calm conditions may not be appealing to thrill-seeking surfers but it is the best place to go for a laid back experience.

5. Seal Beach

Located in Orange County California, Seal Beach has some of the most amazing wave swells and breaks from the west and the south.

These are there throughout the year for the enjoyment of surfers.

Stingray Bay in particular is very popular for the wave depth, consistency and backwash.

6. Huntington Beach: Surf City

This is pretty much the surfing capital of California. The pier at the beach offers waves with amazing body boarding forms that are perfect for surfers at any experience level.

The waters also provide a great backwash bringing the surfer back to shore safely.

It’s a great surfing sport with lots of like-minded surfing enthusiast and you are bound to have a lot of fun whether you are a surfing rookie or an old-timer.

7. New Port Beach: The Wedge

With its impressively consistent waves, New Port Beach is one heck of a surfing spot.

One of its most iconic waves has been nicknamed the Wedge and is popular for its deep and hollow nature that makes surfing a whole lot easier and more fun.

It has amazing backwash with easy sand breaking for a safe return.

The Wedge, however, is not for the faint of heart and should only be attempted by surfers of medium to expert experience levels.

For beginners, smaller waves that hit the beach are just as awesome ensuring that you have just as much fun as the surfing veterans.
